The USDA says 5-9 servings of fruits and veggies per day, but "Strine for nine" makes no sense, so let's start with five. I have 3 fruits and 2 veggies, but feel free to mix things up, but have at least 1 of each. So, 4 fruits and 1 veggie is OK, for example. Sample serving sizes are in the activity description. Eat up!
The United States Department of Agriculture sets a serving size of fruit as a single piece, such as an apple or orange. For sliced fruit, a serving is one-half cup. For this activity, fruit juice does not count. Some examples:
1 banana
15 grapes
6 strawberries
2 plums
1 medium apple
2 clementines
2 kiwis
1/2 grapefruit
1 nectarine
1 medium pear
Have: 3 servings
The United States Department of Agriculture sets a serving size for vegetables to be about one-half cup, or one cup for raw greens like spinach and lettuce. Some examples:
10 baby carrots
1 ear of corn
5 medium broccoli florets
1 medium tomato
5 asparagus spears
Have: 2 servings
